Who we are
Strideborn ("Strideborn", "we", "us", "our") turns your everyday steps into a walking adventure. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and how we protect it.
The data controller is Masq Systems. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, email [email protected].
The data we collect
- Account data — a display name and, if you choose to create or link an account (Apple, Google, or email), your email address. You can use the app as an anonymous guest without an email.
- Activity and health data — step counts and, where you grant access, walking/running distance, active energy and floors climbed, read from Apple Health (HealthKit) on iOS or Health Connect on Android. We treat this as health data and handle it with the extra care described below.
- Subscription data — your Premium purchase and renewal status, validated through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never receive or store your card or payment details.
- Device data — a randomly generated device identifier and (if you enable notifications) a push token, used to sync your account across devices and send journey updates.
- Diagnostics — crash reports and basic performance data, used to find and fix bugs.
Your detailed Activity charts are computed and shown on your device. Only the aggregate daily totals needed to advance your journey and keep leaderboards fair (steps and distance) are sent to our servers.
Health and activity data — your explicit consent
Under the GDPR, activity data such as steps and distance can be "data concerning health" (a special category under Article 9). We process it only with your explicit consent, which you give through the operating system's Apple Health / Health Connect permission prompt. We use it for one purpose: to run the game — advancing your journey, showing your stats, and keeping leaderboards fair.
We do not use health or fitness data for advertising or marketing, we do not sell it, we do not share it with data brokers, and we do not store it in iCloud. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device's Health settings; the app keeps working with whatever access you allow.
How we use your data
We use your data only to run the service: managing your account, advancing your journey, syncing progress across your devices, validating subscriptions, keeping leaderboards fair, and fixing bugs.
Sharing, retention and your rights
We rely on a small number of trusted processors who act on our instructions: Apple and Google (payments and notifications), an EU-hosted diagnostics provider (crash reporting, configured to exclude your health values, IP and request headers), and our EU-based hosting provider. We do not sell your personal data.
We keep your data while your account is active and erase it promptly when you delete your account, retaining only the anonymised billing records we are legally required to keep.
You have strong rights over your data — including access, correction, deletion, portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent. You can delete your account and personal data yourself from the profile screen. For the full legal bases, international-transfer safeguards, and how to complain to a supervisory authority, see our Data Protection & GDPR notice at https://strideborn.com/legal/gdpr.
Children
Strideborn is not directed to children under 13 (or the higher minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, access controls, and platform-secured storage for credentials. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will revise the effective date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
